Spot Clean

Everyone has had minor accidents at home, such as spilling food and wine on the rugs. Jute kitchen rugs and jute dining room rugs are most exposed to these accidents. In such cases, you need to clean your jute area rugs immediately to avoid permanent staining. Yes, but how?

  • Wet Spills: First, immediately blot the spill with a clean cloth or towel. Don't rub! Because rubbing can cause the stain to push deeper into the fibers. If the stain is still there, try dampening a clean towel with some water and pressing it to the rug to remove the stain. You can repeat the process several times and prevent the formation of permanent stains. Be sure to dry the rug thoroughly! If no liquid comes out when you press the towel, it means it is dry. After removing most of the stain,  you can also use a fan or hairdryer to speed up the drying process. If the stain on your jute rug is acidic (such as wine), you can neutralize it with club soda and remove it.
  • Solid Spills: If the spill is solid food, you can use the edge of a spoon or a knife to remove the ingredients. Gently remove as much solid material as possible from the rug. Afterward, clean it without rubbing with a clean cloth or towel and warm water. Make sure to dry your rug so that bacteria do not grow!! If the stain is stubborn, continue to do the same with a small amount of soap diluted with water.
  • Pet Accidents: You can clean pet stains on the rugs, which is one of the frequent accidents for pet owners. Your pets may vomit, urinate or poop on your jute rugs; these are possible accidents. Jute tends to hold both stains and odors, so you need to clean the stain as quickly as possible. In case of such an accident, first, clean the stained area with a clean cloth and vinegar/warm water (50%-50% per glass). And again, we warn you, do not rub; this will cause the stain to spread on your rug. Follow the spot cleaning methods we mentioned above.
